This is not a joke. NASA is offering one (lucky!) person $17,000 to stay in bed for 90 days. NASA wants to test the effects of microgravity on the human body. Participants will spend 90 days lying in bed with their body tilted slightly downward (head down, feet up). Everyday they’ll be awake for 16 hours and sleep for 8 hours. Helloooo??? Rijkaard to leave barcelona

Frank Rijkaard will leave Barcelona at the end of the season and former captain Pep Guardiola will take over as coach of the team, club president Joan Laporta announced on Thursday.

Former Netherlands international Rijkaard took charge of Barcelona in 2003 and led them to back-to-back league titles and victory over Arsenal in the Champions League final in Paris in 2006.

However, his side have failed to win any silverware for the past two seasons and suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat by arch-rivals Real Madrid on Wednesday.

That defeat combined with Villarreal’s victory over Recreativo Huelva means the Catalans will miss out on automatic qualification for the Champions League and cannot finish any higher than third in the Primera Liga. (more at soccernet)

INTER bid for STEVIE-G

LIVERPOOL have turned down a £25million Inter Milan bid for Steven Gerrard.

The Italian giants want to make him their main signing as they begin their centenary celebrations.

A top Inter official confirmed: “We need to make a big signing for next season and Gerrard was at the centre of our thoughts.

“Liverpool gave us the most emphatic response he was not for sale.

“We have drawn up a list of alternatives. But if Liverpool decide to sell, Gerrard is our top priority.”

It is not the first time Inter have tried to snatch the England midfielder.

Preliminary contact for the Kop skipper, 27, who has two years left on his current contract, was made during the Champions League second-round tie between the sides in February.

Juventus will make a £15m bid to tempt Xabi Alonso from Anfield this summer.

But they could face a battle with Barcelona, now Alonso fan Josep Guardiola has been confirmed as Nou Camp manager in place of axed Frank Rijkaard.

Hleb quit the gunners!

ARSENE WENGER was staring into an Arsenal abyss last night after Alex Hleb revealed he is the latest star to quit the club.

Hleb, 27, will buy out the final two years of his contract for £3million and join Inter Milan in the summer.

OWEN HARGREAVES knows from experience he will not be fazed during Manchester United’s nail-biting date with destiny on Sunday.

The Premier League title race between his United side and Chelsea is the most thrilling for years — but the England ace claims he is ‘comfortable’ with it.

And that is because he was involved in the mother of all cliff-hangers during his first season with German giants Bayern Munich in 2000-1.

Back then, Bayern went into the final league match three points ahead of nearest rivals Schalke, who had a superior goal difference.

It meant a draw at Hamburg would give his Munich side the Bundesliga title — but things did not go according to plan as they went 1-0 down.

With Schalke winning comfortably, Bayern looked out of it before rescuing themselves with a 93rd-MINUTE goal from former Blackburn defender Patrik Andersson.

Ramos Berba defeat

JUANDE RAMOS admits he is powerless to stop star striker Dimitar Berbatov leaving Spurs.

The Bulgarian is desperate to play in the Champions League.

And boss Ramos said: “I can’t change his mind. I understand perfectly that big clubs want to sign him.

“I’ve spoken to him many times and know exactly what he wants.

“I obviously want him to stay but we don’t know how future negotiations will go.”

It has been reported that Ramos could use Berbatov as bait to land Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o.

And Ramos added: “We have to cover our backs if he decides to leave. We have to have options to replace him.

“If there are offers for Berba, we will see if they convince us.

“We are not going to make a decision until there is an offer on the table.”

Berbatov signed for Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2006 for £10.9million.

The hitman netted 23 goals in both of the last two seasons.

But he is not happy that Spurs have spent most of this season in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

JOHOR BAHRU – Mahu pancing ikan, terserempak bangkai buaya.

Sekumpulan kaki pancing di Perairan Selat Tebrau di sini terkejut apabila terserempak dengan bangkai seekor buaya sepanjang dua meter terapung kira-kira 8 pagi semalam.

Ketika ditemui, mulutnya terbelit dengan pukat manakala badannya dililit tali jaring.

Menurut Asmadi Mohd. Elias, 29, berkata, dia ternampak bangkai buaya tersebut dari jarak 50 meter dari jeti.

“Sebelum ini saya hanya dengar cerita ada buaya tapi tak sangka pula selat ini betul-betul ada buaya,” katanya kepada pemberita di sini semalam.

Bangkai buaya itu kemudian dibawa oleh beberapa pegawai Jabatan Perlindungan Hidupan Liar dan Taman Negara (Perhilitan) dengan bantuan beberapa orang nelayan daripada Kampung Usahajaya 1, Skudai Kiri di sini.

Mereka juga masih menyiasat jenis buaya itu serta bagaimana ia boleh ditemui di selat berkenaan.

KOTA BHARU – Seorang remaja dibelasah hingga lembik di hadapan ibunya setelah ditahan kerana meragut sebelum diserahkan kepada pihak polis petang semalam.

Kejadian pukul 3.30 petang di Jalan Dusun Raja itu berlaku sejurus selepas seorang wanita menjerit apabila beg tangan dan barangan yang dibeli cuba dilarikan oleh remaja tersebut.

Mangsa, Ros Sabariah Mat Rashid, 20, yang menunggang motosikal baru saja keluar dari sebuah kedai syarikat jualan langsung selepas membeli barangan di situ.

Ros Sabariah yang berasal dari Kedai Lalat di sini berkata, ketika hendak melintas jalan, dia menyedari seorang lelaki sedang menghampirinya dari arah belakang.

“Saya terkejut apabila suspek tiba-tiba mengambil beg tangan dan barangan yang baru saya beli di dalam raga motosikal saya.

“Saya terus menjerit sekuat hati dan sempat tepis tangannya sehingga barang saya bertaburan di atas jalan,” katanya kepada Kosmo! semalam.

KUALA LUMPUR 8 Mei –Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi hari ini mengarahkan UMNO membuat laporan polis terhadap Pengerusi DAP, Karpal Singh ekoran kenyataannya yang mempersoal bidang kuasa Sultan Perak.

Laporan itu telah dibuat oleh Setiausaha Agung UMNO, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor di Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah Sentul, di sini.

Presiden UMNO ketika bercakap kepada pemberita selepas merasmikan Pameran Perdagangan Halal Antarabangsa Malaysia Kelima (MIHAS) di Pusat Pameran dan Konvensyen Matrade (MECC) di sini menegaskan, laporan polis dibuat kerana tindakan Karpal mempunyai kecenderungan menghasut dan menimbulkan kemarahan orang Melayu.

Menurut beliau kenyataan Pengerusi DAP itu dalam isu berkenaan antara lain boleh dilihat sebagai menggambarkan bahawa sultan tidak tahu tentang tugas dan bidang kuasa mereka.

Penting nye elektrik di malaysia

KUALA TERENGGANU – Terpaksa ceraikan dua isteri hanya kerana tiada bekalan elektrik.

Pelik, tetapi itulah realiti kehidupan seorang penoreh getah, Mamat Abdullah, 61, apabila dua perkahwinannya sebelum ini musnah kerana kedua-dua isterinya enggan tinggal lama di rumah yang tidak mempunyai bekalan elektrik.

Lebih malang apabila isteri hasil perkahwinan ketiganya dua bulan lalu, juga tidak mahu duduk sebumbung selagi masalah itu belum diselesaikan.

Menurut Mamat, dia berpindah ke rumah yang dibinanya di atas tanah kerajaan di Kampung Banggol Nyamuk, Sungai Ikan, Kuala Nerus di sini pada 2004 bersama isteri dan seorang anak berumur 12 tahun.

Bagaimanapun, jelasnya, usaha mendapatkan bekalan elektrik gagal walaupun pendawaian sudah dipasang dan aduan juga telah dibuat kepada wakil rakyat.

“Dari awal lagi isteri saya sudah ‘bising’ sebab susah nak hidup tanpa elektrik.

“Lama-kelamaan, dia bawa anak keluar dari rumah dan minta cerai setahun lalu,” katanya di sini semalam.

Malang terus menimpa Mamat apabila perkahwinan keduanya hanya bertahan tujuh bulan, juga atas alasan yang sama.
